Memory Cafés are inclusive social gatherings where people with memory changes and their caregivers can come together in a safe, supportive environment. Guests can share conversation in a relaxed atmosphere and participate in a facilitated activity such as art or music, which is believed to stimulate memories and quiet anxiety. At the very least, these Memory Cafés, which are open to the community, offer a bit of reprieve from the struggles associated with memory loss issues. New England Village’s Sollar Wellness Center Scheduled during the evenings and on weekends, some of our enrichment offerings are held at local public venues or recreational facilities and others are held at New England Village’s Sollar Wellness Center. This state-of-the- art facility was uniquely designed to host a variety of health, wellness, and community programs. It includes a 30-foot by 50- foot swimming pool with a Jacuzzi for therapy-based or aqua fitness classes. The 14,000 square-foot facility also includes an exercise equipment room, a walking track, a fitness studio, an art room with a pottery kiln, and a massage therapy room, making it an ideal location for a variety of community programs. Embracing the values of inclusion and diversity, New England Village is committed to offering the people it serves and the general community a rich variety of programs intended to educate, inspire, or enhance an individual’s experience. Using a person- centered approach and designed to accommodate varied interests and diverse learning styles, these programs are available to those with and without disabilities. The programs range in topic from music and art to sports, recreation, leisure and beyond. A sampling of activities might include a dance party, bowling event, art classes, water zumba, yoga, musical performances, community theater, or unified sports team. Partnering with area schools, local recreation departments, Councils on Aging, 4H Clubs, Kiwanis Clubs, and other organizations such as the Tim Tebow Foundation, Special Olympics and local Girl Scout troops, New England Village delivers a wide range of inclusive activities and programs.
