The farm has provided participants in our Employment Services program the chance to gain valuable work experience, hone their skill set and be involved in consistent work that provides them with a sense of purpose and benefits the community they serve. In addition to the critical work opportunities provided to the individuals served, there are many ancillary benefits of running a farm. It has become a place where other NEV program participants come together to engage in enrichment activities. Through our Community Supported Agriculture program, farm stand, and public events such as summer festivals, autumn hayrides, and visits from local pre-schools, community interaction is plentiful, making Colchester a truly neighborhood farm. Colchester Neighborhood Farm is an eight- acre Baystate Certified Organic farm located in Plympton, MA. In 2012, New England Village took over management of this operation as part of its strategy to create small scale business ventures to provide integrated work opportunities for the individuals in its Employment Services program. Major renovations were made to the farm’s existing structures and today, farm staff, crews, community volunteers, and visitors arrive daily to participate in farm life in ways that are personally gratifying and meaningful to them.
