Day Enrichment Program Ocean Collage Class
Before summer slipped too far into autumn, DEP art class participants went on a sensory journey to the ocean.  The group began by sharing their own summer beach stories, while listening to environmental ocean music and examining seashore treasures. Next, it was time to recreate the beachside environment by sculpting starfish and molding seashells using self-hardening clay. Some textured paint was then added to the sculptures to make them more life-like. The collages also included fabrics to represent sky, ocean and the shore; actual beach items such as sea glass, pebbles, tiny shells and grains of sand were also incorporated into the pieces.
