Clay Holiday Ornaments
Day Enrichment Program participants kicked off the holiday season using techniques they learned in October while creating clay wind chimes. Participants first roll out clay to a controlled thickness (using measuring guide sticks) then add a textured surface design. Some of the themes of the textures included, stars, snowflakes, pine needles and abstract geometric patterns. Once the surface has been textured, the participants used cookie cutters to cut out stars, hearts, trees, candy canes, etc. When the clay has dried and been fired in the kiln, the final step in the process includes “staining” the clay pieces with paint and adding dazzling touches such as glitter or sparkling snow.
