New England Village also offers the Living
Center, a daytime community access program for adults with
developmental disabilities. Directed by the talents and energies of
each participant, the Living Center offers a variety of avenues which
enable people to pursue their dreams at home, at work and in the
community.
Learning is a life-long endeavor, and
the Living Center at New England Village provides support for people who
want to try something new, meet new people, deepen friendships, devote time
to a cherished avocation, and
to explore and discover more about the world and about themselves.
The
Living Center offers connections to community involvement via volunteerism,
civic projects, and classes such as writing, computers and more.
Other activities include sports, exercise, dance, part-time
employment, and cottage-industry paid work.
Additionally, the Living Center offers a robust
arts program that
produces quality works of art that are shown at numerous art fairs, public
exhibits and can be seen in our online art gallery.
The
full use of the resources and services of surrounding towns, individual
supports, scribes and signers are also available to promote the maximum
involvement of NEV participants in the community.
Key Features of
the program are:
-- person-centered process
-- use of community resources
and speakers
-- flexible supports
-- events both at the Center and in
the community
-- a strong self-advocacy component
