Adult education classes are a major component of the Enrichment Program agenda and are designed to support specialized and diverse learning needs and the promotion of new skills and personal interests. Classes are offered evening and weekends to Village residents and individuals from the community, and are divided into three levels, making the learning experience possible for everyone.

Students that participate in adult education courses here at New England Village are given an opportunity to participate in a learning environment that supports specialized and diverse learning needs and the promotion of new skills and personal interests. Our program is divided into 3 levels, designed to make the learning experience possible for everyone.

Courses generally fall under four major categories: health and wellness, creative arts and music, academic subjects or informative group discussions.

Levels

  • Level 1: (In most cases those students capable of Level 2 or 3 should not enroll in Level 1 courses.) In these open ended style classes, participants will have the opportunity to explore at their own pace and capacity for learning. Class objectives are flexible, covering simple tasks with shorter instruction periods and hand-over-hand guidance. Although an instructor & aide are available, participants are required to be

accompanied by their own staff or family member to assist with instruction. Class size generally runs 6-10.

  • Level 2: These enrichment activities assist participants with gaining a variety of interests and skills while enhancing one’s quality of life. Classes are run very similar to standard Adult Education programs. Students are expected to follow simple directions, and will receive individual verbal instruction or hand-over-hand assistance for more difficult tasks. Students will finish the course with a newly developed skill or completed project, and an increased sense of accomplishment. Students are required to be accompanied by their own staff or family member, and should be available to assist if needed. Class size will run between 8-16.
  • Level 3: These classes are designed to provide an educational learning experience for independent highly motivated adults. Participants are expected to maintain a comprehension of either verbal or written text, work independently while completing projects in class or for homework, and should demonstrate learned concepts through verbal, written, and discussion group formats. Level 3 classes will generally fall into two categories, one a traditional classroom setting, the other an informative discussion group. Students may come unaccompanied to these classes. Class size will typically run 8-12.
