Art Appreciation Poetry Reading

During the Autumn of 2007 the participants in the Art Appreciation offering thought about color, all colors. They discussed how artists use color to convey emotion, how advertisers and holidays prepare us to associate color with concept. They learned how to “say” colors using American Sign Language. They made color collages using as many magazine pictures as we could find. Yet mostly, they tossed around ideas using familiar color associations and laughed at the silliness of rhymes we created. Since we turned our rhymes into poems, it seemed only fitting to have a poetry reading party. Poets and guests enjoyed sipping holiday punch and snacking on popcorn while listening to the poems read aloud. Lots of cheers and chuckles were shared in the SWC art room which felt like it was transformed into a cozy cottage, complete with twinkling lights and holiday centerpieces!
